Disinfecting Kitchen Counters

Kitchen counters are places where bacteria like to linger. To minimize bacterial growth, clean all kitchen surfaces immediately after preparing food. Kitchen surfaces that are acrylic or plastic can be effectively cleaned with this all-purpose cleaner homemade recipe.

2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar

1 teaspoon liquid castile soap

2 tablespoons baking soda

2 cups warm water

Mix the first three ingredients, and wait for the baking soda and vinegar to stop reacting. Then add the warm water, and gently shake to mix well. Use on surfaces to clean and disinfect. You can make this recipe whenever you need it. Don’t retain it for a long time. When in doubt, make fresh.

After cleaning your hard-surface well, then disinfect it, by making your own again.

During the bubonic plague in the Middle Ages, robbers used to steal from the belongings of the plague’s victims. The robbers, were spice traders and perfumers. To avoid contracting the plague, they would make a formula of essential oils ( such as garlic, eucalyptus, lemon, rosemary, and sage). Referred to as Thieves Oil, this all-natural blend makes a great nontoxic disinfectant. You can add it to other cleaning recipes for a healthy, natural alternative to commercial disinfectants.
