Baking Soda is an incredible cleaner. It is the original green cleaner and deodorizer solution that is used by our housecleaning service in Evanston, Il.
Not only does baking soda make your baking goods rise but that's just the beginning of baking soda's usefulness. Sodium bicarbonate ( baking soda's chemical) is a great replacement for many household cleaners. Baking soda is mildly alkaline, gently abrasive and safe on most surfaces. There are three basic cleaning uses for baking soda: It boosts cleaning and bleaching in laundering, works as a gently abrasive cleaner and stain remover on hard surfaces, and can be used as a deodorizer in lots of places.
Laundry booster: to improve cleaning and help deodorize, add 1/2 cup baking soda to liquid laundry detergent to help whiten socks and other light durable fabrics. You can also reduce the use of chlorine bleach by using baking soda. Instead of using a full cup of bleach, use 1/2 cup regular bleach and 1/2 cup baking soda to boost bleaching action.
Hard-surface cleaning: For light cleaning of kitchen and bathroom surfaces, make a solution of 4 tablespoons baking soda to 1 quart warm water and wipe, using a cleaning cloth. Then rinse. For tougher hard-surface jobs, mix up a paste using equal parts baking soda and warm water. You can also mix up a poultice of baking soda and water that, when left on for an hour or so, will pull stains from china, porcelain, countertops, and other hard surfaces.
Deodorizing: Baking soda absorbs odors in the refrigerator, in carpet, and in pet areas. To deodorize a refrigerator, take the top completely off a box and leave it inside at the back of a shelf. Also, you can leave an oopen box in musty closets or storage areas. Change them every 3 months. For carpets, sprinkle directly on, allow it to sit about 15 minutes, then vacuum. To keep litter box odor down, sprinkle baking soda in the box before adding the litter.
Baking soda is a wonder. Our Grandma's knew it's cleaning value and we here at Dial-A-Maid Cleaning Service in Evanston, Il. appreciate and follow her original green cleaning methods.
